Meanwhile, what are these confusing signals that we are getting? Presidential son Mikey Arroyo is reported to have said he does not know what his mother’s plans are, and people started speculating that it means Mommy is planning something. Then Mikey admits that there are offers for him to run for governor of Pampanga and leave his congressional district. Ahem? What is disturbing is that Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, seemingly exasperated with talks about boycotts and disturbances planned for the SONA (State of the Nation Address) of the President next month, snaps that the President has the option to declare Martial Law. Great God in heaven!

But there is another scenario that we must look out for. Senator Chiz Escudero spoke about reports, or, well, rumors, that the pro Con-Ass members of the House may sneak the voting on their pet project in the agenda for the SONA. Can they do that? Who knows? The SONA is just like any session, a joint one at that, where the Senate President and the House Speaker bang their gavels and pronounce the opening of the session. What, indeed, if one of the Con-Asses suddenly stands up and proposes the voting? I also heard Escudero say that they will not boycott, but will locate themselves in the rear seats, so they can walk out in case that happens.

I’m sure many people are happy that Senator Juan Ponce Enrile has exposed the reprehensible practice of cellular phone companies of mulcting their subscribers through the disappearance of their phone loads even if they haven’t used them. Several times I have heard people here complaining that they cannot use their phones anymore even if they had made only one or two calls after “filling up” just a few days before. After the Enrile experience, the practice was taken up in the Senate and let us see how the companies will respond.
