Bangon Stages Caravan
3:35 PM
Bangon Pilipinas-Negros and Bacolod Chapters will stage a caravan at around 4:00 p.m. today, August 21, 2009 around some major streets of Bacolod City to support the formal declaration of Bro. Eddie Villanueva to run for President in the May 2010 elections.

The caravan will culminate in a rally to be held at the Fountain of Justice in front of the old City Hall Building in downtown Bacolod City.

The caravan and rally in Bacolod will follow the 9:00 a.m. formal declaration that Bro. Eddie Villanueva will make at the Barasoain Church, in Malolos, Bulacan, considered the spiritual birthplace of the Philippine revolution against Spain.

Atty. Lyndon P. CaƱa, convenor of Bangon Pilipi-nas-Negros, said that Bro. Eddie chose this date, which coincides with the death aniversary of Ninoy Aquino, as a statement that the fight of Ninoy and Cory Aquino are not yet finished. Ninoy fought for freedom, Cory fought to restore democracy, for which the entire Filipino nation is grateful. However, the fight continues for righteousness in government. Bangon Pilipinas believes that freedom and democracy will not bless the land unless the government also rules in righteousness.

That the country is in crying need of righteousness is shown by the worsening levels of corruption in government, extra-judicial killings, the rigging of elections, massive and systematic vote-buying, widespread poverty, massive underemployment, and lack of opportunities.

Bangon Pilipinas prays that it will be able to rally all forces of conscience all across the land, defeat the forces of traditional politics, and establish an honest, responsible, and competent government in the country.*
