| Negros Occidental Governor Isidro Zayco has confirmed that his younger brother, Kabankalan City Mayor Pedro “Bebeng” Zayco is not inclined to run for Vice Governor of the province in the 2010 elections. The older Zayco said the inclination of his younger brother is to be a Prov’l board member representing the 6th district of the province. Both Board Members Adolfo Mangao and Macario Zafra are graduating, representing the district. Zayco said he talked to his brother and that he is not inclined to become Presiding officer of the Provincial Board, “and would prefer to be just a member of that board,” Zayco said. The possible Marañon-Zayco tandem for Governor and Vice Governor of the province came out after the recent meeting of Zayco and Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon with the 5 congressmen of the province. Marañon personally suggested during the meeting that if he will be running for Governor, Zayco could be his running mate. The younger Zayco will be graduating as Mayor of Kabankalan City in 2010. “That’s all I can say now, I rest and I won’t speculate,” Zayco said when asked about the other possible political scenario that could happen in the province. Zayco said all the political speculations could be answered when he delivers his State of the Province Address next month, although he already said that he is more inclined to run for Mayor of Kabankalan City. With this decision of Mayor Pedro Zayco, other possible running mates of Marañon under the United Negros Alliance (UNA) are San Carlos City Mayor Eugenio “Bong” Lacson, Vice Governor Dino Yulo, Manapla Mayor Mano-let Escalante and Third District Congressman Jose Carlos “Kako” Lacson. Zayco also said that his younger brother has no plan to run for congressman in the Sixth District.* By Teresa Ellera-Dulla |
