| By Edgar Cadagat Sixth District Congressman Genaro “Lim-ao” Alvarez Jr. could run in tandem with Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) gubernatorial bet, Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon Jr. as his vice gubernatorial candidate in the province in the coming 2010 May elections, an unimpeachable source said the other day. Both Marañon and Alvarez belong to the Nationalist Peoples’ Coalition (NPC). Alvarez, who had been a representative of the sixth district in the House for several terms running, in some instance broken due to his having reached his third term, is giving way to his daughter, as the NPC’s congressional bet in next year’s elections. The older Alvarez, has therefore, the source said, decided to seek the vice-gubernatorial post. Alvarez’ daughter, Merce-des “Cheding” Alvarez, a practising lawyer, is seeking his father’s post as congresswoman and is likely to win the election for the position next year. The source Marañon-Alvarez tandem, is perfect because the former comes from Northern Negros while the latter who has never been defeated in the sixth district is from Southern Negros. Among the province’s congressmen, Alvarez has the biggest infrastructure project, having already implemented close to P1.5 million of projects in his area. But both Marañon and Alvarez won’t run away with the election handily because several political parties with presidentiables to include the Liberal Party (LP), Naciona-lists Party (NP) and Lakas-CMD Kampi could field its candidates from governor down as a political network to ensure the victories of their presidential standard-bearers.* |
